Revvive/Compare/Toma

Toma vs Revvive: an honest comparison.

We are Revvive, so read this knowing who wrote it. If you are weighing Toma alternatives, the honest answer is that we probably are not one. Toma answers your phones and runs your service drive. Revvive works the dead sales leads sitting in your CRM. Different channels, different parts of the funnel, and a store can run both.

Choose Toma if
  • Inbound calls go unanswered or to voicemail
  • Your service drive needs automated scheduling
  • You want a voice AI that talks to callers live
  • Missed calls and no-shows are the leak
  • You want an established, well-funded vendor
Choose Revvive if
  • Your phones are handled but the database is not
  • You have thousands of leads silent for 90+ days
  • You want outbound text triggered by a real reason
  • You would rather pay per car sold than per seat
  • You want the dormant sales book worked, not the phones

Everything below about Toma comes from their public website and press coverage and may change. We have tried to describe them fairly, including where they are stronger than us. If we have got something wrong, tell us and we will correct it.

The part that matters

Answering the phone is not the same as working the dead pile.

Toma is a voice-first inbound system. When a customer calls the dealership, Toma picks up, holds a real spoken conversation, books the service appointment or answers the sales question, and routes the call if a human is needed. It is very good at making sure nothing that reaches you gets dropped, including the missed call it follows up by text.

That is a real and valuable job. It is also the opposite end of the funnel from what Revvive does. Revvive never waits for the phone to ring. It watches the dormant sales database for the moment something changes for one specific person, then reaches out first: a 2022 Civic in the exact trim they asked about last March, a lease maturing in 104 days, a payoff that just dropped below live trade value.

The customers Toma helps are the ones already trying to reach you. The customers Revvive helps stopped trying months ago. Those are two different problems, and solving one does nothing for the other. A store with Toma on the phones can still have 21,000 dead leads nobody has worked, and a store running Revvive still needs someone to answer the service line.

Being straight with you

Where Toma is stronger.

Voice. Toma holds live spoken conversations with callers. Revvive does not do voice at all. If your problem is the phone, that is them, not us.

Inbound and the service drive. Answering every call, booking service into the DMS, cutting no-shows: that is Toma's home turf and not something Revvive touches.

Maturity and scale. Toma is well-funded, backed by a16z, and live on the phones at a large number of dealerships. We are early and taking on design partners.

What we would push back on is the idea that a system handling your inbound is also handling your dormant database. It is not the same work. Most stores that run a strong inbound AI still have a sales graveyard sitting untouched in the CRM, because nobody has the hours to work it and there is usually nothing new to say on a cold call anyway.

The wider landscape

Other dealer AI tools worth knowing.

If you are shopping the category, these are the names that come up most. Most are inbound or general-messaging tools. None of them, Toma included, is built specifically to work the dormant sales database the way Revvive is.

Common questions

Toma vs Revvive FAQ.

What is the difference between Toma and Revvive?

Toma builds AI voice agents that answer inbound calls for dealerships, book service appointments, and handle parts and sales questions. Revvive is outbound: it monitors your CRM and DMS for buying signals on leads that have gone silent for 90 or more days, then texts those specific people and books them onto the sales floor. Toma handles the phone ringing now; Revvive works the leads who stopped calling months ago.

Is Revvive an alternative to Toma?

For most dealers, no, because they solve different problems. If you need to answer inbound calls and automate your service drive, that is Toma, not Revvive. If your phones are handled but your dormant sales database is not, Revvive is the piece Toma does not cover. A store can run both without overlap.

Does Toma do lead reactivation?

Toma works the leads and calls coming into the dealership, and follows up on missed calls by text. Revvive works differently: it proactively scans the whole dormant database for individual buying signals and reaches out first, rather than waiting for the customer to make contact.

Can you run Toma and Revvive at the same time?

Yes. Toma answers inbound voice and books service; Revvive runs outbound text to the dormant sales book from your dealership number. They operate on different channels and different parts of the funnel, so there is no conflict.

Which one books more car sales?

They contribute in different ways. Toma protects revenue by making sure no call or service opportunity is missed. Revvive recovers revenue from leads already sitting in the CRM that no rep has the hours to work. Neither replaces the other.
